Parking / ARRIVALEdcamp Hershey will be hosted by Hershey Middle School, however the closest parking lot will be the one at Hershey High School, which is right next to the Middle School Library Entrance. If it sounds confusing, see the map. The address for Hershey Middle School: 500 Homestead Road Hershey, PA 17033 REgistration/Check INRegistration is between 9:00 am and 9:45 am. You do not have to arrive exactly at 9:00, but you do want some time for networking and breakfast. At the registration desk, you will get a name tag, post-it notes, and the networking game. Don't forget to stop by our swag table, because we have some awesome sponsors this year, including the last minute superheroes that saved lunch. There will be breakfast and session building time in the library. While we are feeding you and have you as a captive audience, we are going to explain the Edcamp model to the newbies and explain the day. There will be four session groups, with two in the morning and two after lunch. What to Bring / WearThe dress code is casual. Whatever you want to wear to be comfortable. A shirt with a logo of your favorite tech tool can be a great conversation starter. If bow ties give you confidence, go for it. You might want the option of layers; the building temperature can be unpredictable at times. You will walk away with many ideas, so be prepared to record them either with a device or on paper. Sessions do not have to be about technology, but many times they will be, so bring a device so you can play along with everyone else. Wi-Fi will be available in all rooms. Most of the rooms will allow you to project laptops to share resources with others. There are a few low tech rooms that will be great for conversations. | Above is a map of the rooms we will use for Edcamp at the Middle School. The library will be the central hub. We have had an interesting two days as planners: going from losing sleep over how we were going to cover the cost of food to being thrilled by the generosity of sponsors. Friday was a game changer. Three sponsors were superheroes and saved lunch for Edcamp Hershey. A HUGE thanks to Eduspire, ZeeMee, and the Penn State Harrisburg Teacher Education Program! I also appreciate that attendees were supportive of tipping a couple dollars to show gratitude for the caterer providing food below cost. Luckily this is a non-issue now. The learning and the food will be plentiful. Enjoy your weekend. We look forward to meeting everyone on Monday! While edcamp Hershey is ultimately about learning and not stuff, we do have awesome sponsors who have donated items to raffle off and hand out to you. With a little luck, you could walk away with one of the many prizes! Even if you don't win raffle items, there will be plenty of other freebies and swag handed out at various points in the day, so everyone will walk away with items for their classrooms. A HUGE thank-you to all of our wonderful sponsors! Special thanks to Derry Township School District for providing us space, PAECT for breakfast from Panera, and Squirrels, Eduspire, Penn State Harrisburg Teacher Ed Program, & ZeeMee for covering lunch (catered by Blazing Swine BBQ) and afternoon snacks (did someone say cake?). Read on for a list of raffle prizes & freebies and get excited for Edcamp Hershey. And yes, there will be chocolate provided by The Hershey Company!
Registration will open at 9am, but you do not have to get there exactly when it starts. There is time built in for breakfast, socializing, games, and building the schedule. This is not a formal conference but a fun day of learning. There isn't really a dress code, just be comfortable. You might want layers because there is no guarantee the temperature of the rooms. After you arrive, you will check in at our registration desk. You will get a name tag and post-it notes. The post-it is where you will record something you want to talk about or learn about during the day. Suggestions from the entire group will be expertly mixed (because as teachers we are experts of learning) to create engaging sessions. Everyone will find sessions they are interested in. If you don't, come find @SrtaLisa and that will be fixed. Don't forget to stop by our swag table, because we have some awesome sponsors this year. Some of the sponsors provided items for everyone attending, other sponsors provided larger items that we will raffle off at the end of the day. You will walk away with many ideas, so be prepared to record them either with a device or on paper. Sessions do not have to be about technology, but many times they will be, so bring a device so you can play along with everyone else. Wi-Fi will be available in all rooms. We will use the hashtag #sweetpd on whatever social media platform you like, so we can share learning and memories. We can't wait to meet you all in less than a week! |
